Super Scrapbook Business Idea

I love discovering clever ways that people are marketing their craft  businesses. We can all learn something from innovators.

My friend Xandra at Craftbooksnow.com has just told me about this scrapbook business and how they’re promoting their scrapbooking pro course. If scrapbook making is one of the crafts you’re involved in I thoroughly recommend you check this out.

If you’re not into scrapbooking there’s still reason to have a look to learn from the sales process. This is selling craft information online at its finest.

The first thing you see at the site is a free offer. In exchange for your email they’ll give you a free report about running your own scrapbooking business.

Now I’m not particularly into scrapbooking but I want to see how the process works so I entered my email. It’s very slick. They’re using Aweber (who I’ve recommended elsewhere) to manage this and all I have to do is confirm an email (cuts down on spam) and I get my report download.

The report is very well written and full of useful information. Something of real value to those who ask for it. The kind of thing that builds confidence in the provider. Interestingly - and rather cleverly - at the end of the report is a link that gives you a discount off the course price.

Back at the main site there are all the elements you want to build a convincing argument for joining the course. A statement of where you want to go and a description of what they’ll do to help you. There are testimonials from a couple of satisfied buyers, the all important guarantee and an affirmation of what you want just before the “call to action” - the buy link. Even then they don’t quit, promising to deliver your first lesson immediately.

This is excellent fulfillment of a promise and a superb reaction to “impulse” buyers. It’s an instant gratification world and Scrap Venture Pro - the people behind all this - are doing a great job of providing it.

Finally you have a bit of a personal touch with the signature of Dawn Stegall who calls herself a “Scrapbook Venture Coach”. Even that’s subtly clever, giving the impression she’s not just a scrapbooker but a qualified coach. Also subtle is a final, final little nudge, the PS, which encourages you to join now.

As you can imagine I see quite a lot of this kind of thing, especially from those people writing and publishing craft books. I seldom see it done as well as this.

They engage you right from the start with a giveaway of true value. In exchange they’ve got your email. I suspect in the next few days I’ll get another email or two offering a bit of advice or asking if I’ve got any questions. Each email, set up and timed for automatic delivery by Aweber, will nudge me towards making the ‘buy’ decision.

To be frank, when the marketing is done this well I’m tempted, just to see the quality of the scrapbooking course. I bet it’s superb!
